Some 672 out of 927 companies hit by mid-May riots in Vietnam have declared their losses were estimated to reach over 156.75 million U.S. dollars as of the end of July, local authorities reported.
According to reports by four localities affected by riots including central Ha Tinh province, southern Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai province and Binh Duong province, two assaulted companies out of the reported 927 have not resumed operation.
Meanwhile, a total of 63 riot-hit companies proposed an extension for April taxes, Bao Giao Thong (Transport News), an online newspaper of Vietnam's Ministry of Transport, reported on Friday.
In a related move, as of the end of July, Vietnam's taxation agencies have refunded some 2.19 trillion Vietnamese dong (over 103.6 million U.S. dollars) in value added tax (VAT) for 181 firms hit by the riots.
In mid-May, a series of riots hit foreign companies in southern and central Vietnam, leaving four Chinese nationals brutally killed, around 20 foreign factories burned down and some 1,100 foreign companies affected.
