Chairman of Amman Chamber of Commerce Issa Haider Murad
Amman - Petra

President of Amman Chamber of Commerce (ACC) Issa Haider Murad has warned against continuing the strike at Aqaba Container Terminal (ACT), stressing that Jordan and its economy will receive the brunt of the impact from the fallout.
In a press statement released on Tuesday, Murad described the events at the ACT as "vandalism and tampering with the nerve center of the national economy." He also stressed that everyone must respect the laws and judicial regulations issued recently as well as the agreements forged between the conflicting parties with regard to labor demands, calling for priority to be given to serving the public interest rather than personal interests.
Murad pointed out the losses that will be inflicted on the national economy and on the importers and dealers who are committed to meeting demand either inside or outside the Kingdom, as a result of the halt in activity at the port of Aqaba.
The ACC president stressed the importance of strengthening partnerships and understanding between the two conflicting parties in order to serve the national economy and facilitate the flow of goods and the continuation of production for the domestic market.
Aqaba Container Terminal (ACT) is Jordan's only container port and the second busiest facility on the Red Sea. Its strategic position at the crossroads of three continents and four countries makes it the preferred gateway for the Levant region, and it currently serves around 20 of the world’s top shipping lines.
