U.S. employers posted slightly fewer job openings in April from the previous month, U.S. Labor Department reported on Tuesday. The number of job openings shed 3 percent to 3.757 million in April from 3.875 million in March. A separate Labor Department report released earlier this month showed that the U.S. unemployment rate stood at 7.6 percent in May, and the total number of unemployed Americans topped 11.8 million. That means an average of about 3.1 Americans are competing for every job opening opportunity. Economists hold that in a healthy economy, the ratio of the unemployed people and the job openings is roughly 2 to 1.
