Administrator Helen Clark
Cairo - MENA

Helen Clark, administrator of the United Nations Development Programme, has voiced support for Egypt's economic and social developmental plans and programs.

During a meeting with Egypt's Foreign Ministry Sameh Shoukry, Clark said that the UN program is ready to provide support for Cairo according to the priorities of Egyptian government, said spokesman for Foreign Minister Ahmed Abo Zaid.

Clark congratulated Shoukry on organizing Egypt Economic Development Conference in March and completing the new Suez Canal Project.

The UN fully appreciates economic successes achieved by Egypt during the past short period, Clark said.

The UN program supports Egypt in its efforts against terrorism, Clark added.

Clark descried the announcement of parliamentary polls as a very encouraging step.

The move is evidence that Egypt is determined to complete the third and final phase of the political road map, she said.

The meeting tackled means of supporting Egypt's efforts and capabilities to provide basic services to the Syrian refugees in the country.

Clark briefed Shoukry on her assessment of the humanitarian and economic situation in Syria, Iraq and Yemen.

Clark voiced appreciation for burdens incurred by Syria's neighboring countries in hosting the Syrian refugees.

The UN program desires to provide institutional support for Egypt to complete its noble role in providing the needs of Syrian refugees, she said.
