Uganda and UN agencies operating in the country have signed an agreement establishing a 6.5 million U.S. dollar Ebola and Marburg Response Fund.
The five year Development Assistance Framework agreement was signed by Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda and UN Resident Coordinator Ahunna Eziakonwa-Onochie, according to a statement issued here on Friday by the Prime Minister's office.
"We are extremely happy with Uganda for having managed to battle Ebola and stem its escalation in West Africa, and we commit to walk side-by-side with the Government to ensure the plan is fully funded," Eziakonwa-Onochie said.
Eziaknowa-Onochie hailed Uganda for being one of the first countries to develop a course for fighting Ebola at Makerere University.
She said by Uganda sending health workers to West Africa where the disease has so far killed over 5,000 people the country had raised the bar.
