Russia should take measures to ensure its food security, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Friday.
“Food security is essential for any country, including Russia,” the president told young Russians participating in the activities of the Seliger youth camp in Russia’s Tver region.
Putin said that anti-Russian sanctions and Russia’s retaliatory ban imposed on western food imports on August 7 were giving a chance to Russia to develop its own agrarian sector. “It was a blessing in disguise,” he said, adding that Russians ought to have started doing many things themselves long ago.
“For example, we could make transportation of fish products from the Far East to the European part of the country more profit-making and do many other things to support our agriculture,” the Russian president explained.
Putin also spoke of the need to improve rules and regulations in this sphere.
