Korean government, ruling party to push for hike in cigarette prices

The government and the ruling party will push to raise cigarette prices by a large margin to reduce the country's smoking rate, party officials said Wednesday.
More than 70 percent of cigarettes in South Korea are sold for 2,500 won (US$2.46) or less, which is much cheaper than the average price of $6.40 among the member countries of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).
