Istanbul's third airport contract has been initialled. The third airport to be built in Istanbul was contracted on the 80th foundation anniversary of General Directorate of State Airports Authority (DHMI) in Ankara with the attendance of Turkish Minister of Transportation, Maritime Affairs and Communications Binali Yildirim, Director General of State Airports Authority of Turkey (DHMI) Orhan Birdal and representatives of the Limak, Cengiz, Kolin, Ma-Pa, Kalyon companies. Turkish Minister of Transportation Binali Yildirim said the airport project had been a milestone that had changed all the indicators in Turkey at the signing ceremony held at the Directorate General for Highways in Turkish capital Ankara on Monday. Yildirim reminded that he had said "This airport tender will return to Turkey as an upgraded rating", and added "Turkey is growing and developing with each passing day and the country has implemented significant projects that would serve not only its own citizens but also all the countries in the region." The planned third airport will be one of the largest airports in the world with four separate terminal buildings and annual capacity of 150 million passengers when completed. The new airport project in Istanbul was undertaken by Limak/Cengiz/Kolin/Ma-Pa/Kalyon Consortium, a joint venture of only Turkish companies.
