Wheat production in Iran reached about 13.5 million tons in 2011 indicating no change compared to the figure for 2010.According to the report released by UN Food and Agriculture Organization about 691 million tons of wheat were produced worldwide since the beginning of 2011, showing a growth of six per cent from the figure for 2010 which was 651 million tons. Iran imported 1.3 million tons of wheat in the current year which shows an increase of 100,000 tons compared to the figure for the previous year which was 1.2 million tons. According to the report, total wheat reserves of the country dropped from 3 million tons in 2010 to 2.1 million tons in the current year. Iran produced 3.7 million tons of barley in 2011 and the figure shows no change compared to the amount for 2010. The report put the amount of Iran's barley imports in 2011 at 400,000 tons which is equal to the figure for 2010. Iran's corn production also rose from 1 million tons in 2010 to 1.3 million tons in 2011 which shows a 30 per cent increase. A growth in domestic corn production helped reduce import of the agro product to Iran from 3.4 million tons in 2010 to 3 million tons in 2011. Production of other types of grain in Iran increased from 4.7 million tons in 2010 to 5 million tons in 2011. About 2,325 million tons of grains have been produced in the world since the beginning of 2011, showing an increase of 3.7 per cent compared to the figure for the past year which was 2,241 tons
