An Iranian maritime official
Tehran - FNA

An Iranian maritime official said the country has gained self-sufficiency in designing and manufacturing various types of vessels, particularly passenger ships.
"Iran has stepped up building travel vessels over last years, and it does not need imports of the vessels," Director-General for Equipment Supply & Maintenance at Port and Maritime Organization Abdolkarim Razazan said.
He went on to say that Iran used to buy the vessels from the UAE and China, adding the travel vessels built locally can compete with foreign models and have passed world standards.
He added that Iranian travel vessels are high-qualified in safety terms.
Iran started a self-sufficiency campaign in its industries after the victory of the Islamic Revolution 35 years ago, making major breakthroughs in various sectors.
