Washington - Xinhua

The Washington-based International Monetary Fund (IMF) said on Thursday that it will send a mission to Libya to assess the country's economy. The IMF is planning to send the mission soon to review the North African nation's economic and financial situation, said the IMF Gerry Rice said at a news briefing. The announcement came after the news of Libyan rebel forces killed the country's former leader Moammar Gadhafi. Rice said that a group of experts from the Fund and the World Bank had visited Libya on an Oct. 6-13 fact-finding mission. "In the coming weeks, follow-up missions are planned to undertake a needs assessment on public financial management issues, as well as continuing work on the preparation of a macroeconomic framework," Rice said. On Sept. 10, the 187-membered global lender announced the Fund' s recognition of the NTC as Libya's transitional government, paving the way to support the country with financial help.
