Cyprus seeks to restore maritime link with Egypt to boost tourism cooperation, the Cypriot parliament speaker said.
In statements to reporters on Tuesday, Yannakis Omirou said the Egyptian-Cypriot-Greek summit to be held in Cairo in June has specific cooperation projects.
Omirou said Cyprus is ready to be Egypt's representative at the EU institutions, noting that his current visit to Egypt comes at an invitation to his Egyptian counterpart Ali Abdel Aal.
Omirou said he and Abdel Aal signed a cooperation memo during a meeting on Monday.
The two sides agreed to restructure the friendship group between the two parliaments, he said.
He said the Cairo-Nicosia relations witnessed a fillip in all domains, noting that there are a defense cooperation deal between the two sides.
He added that there is an Egyptian-Cypriot-Greek cooperation framework in the fields of tourism, energy and agriculture.
The Cypriot parliament speaker said Egypt and Cyprus also cooperate in the energy domain.
Asked about his assessment of Egypt's regional role concerning the conditions in Libya and the occupied Palestinian lands, he stressed that Egypt as the center of the Arab world at the political, economic and cultural levels plays a vital role in settling many regional issues.
