New York - KUNA

The Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) on Thursday said that the United Nations has sent eight more shipments to Syria in implementation of the UN Security Council Resolution 2165.
UN Secretary-General's Spokesman Stephane Dujarric told the daily press briefing that six shipments were from Turkey - four through the Bab al-Salam crossing and two through the Bab al-Hawa crossing; the other two were from Jordan through the Al-Ramtha crossing.
He indicated that the shipments included food assistance for nearly 70,000 people and medical supplies for some 190,000 people in Aleppo, Idleb, Quneitra, Latakia and Daraa governorates, adding that all the shipments crossed without incident, and distribution of relief supplies is ongoing.
The Security Council is scheduled to examine the Secretary-General's report on the humanitarian situation in Syria and the extent of Damascus cooperation on August 28.
In a related issue, the World Health Organization (WHO) said earlier today in Geneva that a USD 45 million donation from the State of Kuwait has saved the lives and addressed the health needs of millions of people affected by the conflict in Syria.
It added that the funds were used to provide health care in both government and opposition-controlled areas within Syria, as well as in neighbouring countries struggling to cope with nearly 3 million Syrian refugees.
