The National Assembly has approved on Tuesday, upon the request of both government and parliament, amendments to the ministerial committee in charge of the protection of public funds.
The request was presented by Minister of Justice and Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Yaqoub Al-Sanee and chairman of the parliamentary Committee for the protection public funds MP Abdullah Al-Tareeji.
Also during the regular session today, the parliament approved measures concerning the right of the National Assembly to take action in case of government negligence towards the protection of public funds.
The measures involved allowing the Audit Bureau to follow up on cases of violations against public funds in accordance with the law and constitution.
Meanwhile, Minister of Oil and Minister of State for National Assembly Affairs Ali Al-Omair said during the session that the investigations on the Dow Chemical file is still open, noting that violators of public funds will be prosecuted.
The Fatwa and Legislation Department is currently studying the case, he said, adding that Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) will take legal measures against violators.
