Social Affairs Minister, Pierre Bouassi, and Deputy of the United Nations Special Coordinator in Lebanon, Philippe Lazzarini, on Sunday toured the Bekaa within the framework of the UNDP project to support Lebanon Host Communities (LHSP).
The project was implemented according to a national strategy in response to the repercussions of the Syrian crisis on Lebanon.
Minister Bouassi said that the Lebanese delegation partaking in Brussels' conference urged the International Community to support hosting communities and to strengthen their domestic production.
Bouassi considered that racism against the refugees was unacceptable and required a humanitarian, national and realistic approach.
"By boosting the [Lebanese] infrastructure, job opportunities would be provided for young people, which Syrian refugees could benefit from," he noted.
The Minister revealed that starting next week the ministry would redistribute social centers in a way that catered for the needs of various regions, calling on the municipalities to help the ministry in finding places in order to establish said centers.
In his turn, Lazzarini said that the Bekaa visit came within the context of improving the growth of the economy through investing in the infrastructure, job creation and building the capacity of the Lebanese communities.
