6.7-Magnitude earthquake hits Northern Japan

An earthquake hit Iwate Prefecture on Thursday morning. Japan's Meteorological Agency estimates the earthquake's magnitude at 6.7. It struck on Thursday morning, according to Japan's (NHK) Tremors with an intensity of 5 minus on the Japanese Scale of 0 to 7 were registered in Aomori and Iwate prefectures. The epicenter was off the coast of Iwate prefecture, at a depth of about 20 kilometers. The agency issued tsunami advisories to coastal areas of Iwate prefecture but lifted them later. No major damage has been reported.
