Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga
Tokyo - Arab Today

The Japanese government said it will promote efforts to develop and deepen economic ties with the United States, whoever is president.

Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga spoke to reporters on Thursday, after the news conference by US President-elect Donald Trump.

Suga refrained from directly commenting on Trump's comments but said the government is thoroughly analyzing them, Japan's Radio NHK World reported. In the news conference, Trump spoke of the need to correct his country's huge trade deficits with Japan and other countries.

Suga said, generally speaking, brisk trade and investment are a source of vitality for Japan-US economic relations. He said he believes the United States upholds the principle of free trade and the next president will also pursue that path.

Suga said data shows Japanese firms have directly invested 411 billion dollars in the US and employ 840,000 people. He said Japanese firms are recognized as good corporate citizens in the US
