Reigning Wimbledon champ Petra Kvitova has pulled out of next week's Indian Wells hardcourt tournament, saying she is fatigued and needs more time to rest.
"Unfortunately I have been feeling exhausted on the court in recent weeks and unable to compete at 100 percent," she said. "I will be taking some time out in order to rest and restore my energy levels for the rest of the season."
The 24-year-old Czech lost in the quarter-finals at the Qatar Open in Doha last month, giving her an 11-4 record this season.
Kvitova has won 15 singles titles and earned more than $17 million in her career, including a second Wimbledon crown last year. She also won Wimbledon in 2011.
Kvitova gave no timeline for her return. She has frequently complained of suffering from breathing and virus issues over the course of her career.
“I am extremely disappointed to have to withdraw from the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, one of my favourite tournaments on the calendar," she said on her website.
