Austrian skier Mario Scheiber confirmed Thursday he will not compete in the north American World Cup ski events in Lake Louise and Beaver Creek because of an injury picked up in training. The 28-year-old had been due to return to competition in the downhill and super-G at Lake Louise this weekend after fracturing his collar bone and nose in a training crash last January in Chamonix. But he injured himself last week training at Vail, Colorado and has decided to return to Europe for further treatment. Scheiber finished second at Lake Louise last year, and is hopeful of getting back to competition at the Italian resort of Val Gardena on December 16-17.
