David Clarkson gave New Jersey the lead for good with 8:43 to play and the Devils beat Philadelphia 4-1 to level their National Hockey League playoff series at one win each. New Jersey on Tuesday scored four goals in the third period, the most they have ever scored in one period in a road playoff game, to even the second-round Eastern Conference best-of-seven matchup. The Devils will play host to games three and four at home on Thursday and Sunday. Philadelphia's Matt Read opened the scoring only 2:53 into the first period but Adam Henrique equalized for the Devils on an unassisted goal 3:08 into the third period, setting the stage for Clarkson's goal. After Zach Parise was denied by Philadelphia goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov, the puck bounced to onrushing Clarkson, who tapped it into the net and leaped atop the goal frame, his hands raised in celebration as his legs dangled in the air. New Jersey's Travis Zajac sent a backhand wrap-around shot high into the net just 2:44 later and Bryce Salvador scored a short-handed goal with 2:51 to play to produce the final margin. New Jersey outshot Philadelphia 12-1 in the scoreless second period, the Flyers putting their only shot on Devils goaltender Martin Brodeur with 90 seconds remaining in the period. Brodeur finished with 18 saves while Brysgalov stopped 31 shots.
