An infield single by Joe Mauer drove in the go-ahead score in a three-run seventh Friday, bringing the Minnesota Twins a 3-2 victory over Seattle. The Twins faced a 2-0 deficit heading into the seventh, but scored three times while hitting only one ball out of the infield. Minnesota ended a three-game losing streak and gave the Mariners their seventh straight loss. Seattle starter Jason Vargas gave up a double to Chris Parmelee with one out in the seventh and was lifted for Tom Wilhelmsen. The Seattle reliever walked both Alexi Casilla and Trevor Plouffe to load the bases, and when Denard Span hit a grounder back to Wilhelmsen, he threw wildly to the plate allowing a run to score. A fielder's choice grounder from Jamey Carroll brought home another run, and Charlie Furbush came in for Wilhelmsen. Mauer then reached on his infield single to drive home the third run of the inning. Wilhelmsen (1-1) was charged with the loss and the win went to starter Carl Pavano (2-2), who allowed two runs on eight hits in six innings. Matt Capps needed just nine pitches to retire the side in order in the ninth for his fifth save.
