'YES to Work' national initiative
Abu Dhabi - Arab Today

Abu Dhabi Centre for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (ACTVET) will commence tomorrow a week-long training programme for 700 Emirati male and female students as part of phase III of 'YES to Work', a national initiative that encourages young Emiratis to engage in a professional experience in the private sector by offering them the opportunity of a work placement and a training in retail services during their summer and winter break.
YES to Work supports the Absher Initiative, launched by His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President of the U.A.E., with the objective to provide all means of stability and welfare for U.A.E. citizens by enhancing their participation in the labour market, especially the private sector.
In support of this initiative the Abu Dhabi Centre for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (ACTVET) promotes the YES to Work Initiative to reinforce the Emirati youth employability and create opportunities for lifelong learning.
Under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, the third phase of YES to Work takes place from 10 to 28 August and involves 700 students who will work on part-time basis in selected retail outlets in Abu Dhabi, Western Region, Al Ain and Dubai.
Mubarak Saeed Al Shamsi, Deputy Director of ACTVET and head of the initiative organising committee, said the preparatory training programme for participants will be conducted from 13 to 17 July in Al Jazirah Institute of Science and Technology (Abu Dhabi), Al Jaheli Institute of Science and Technology (Al Ain), Baynounah Institute of Science and Technology (Western Region) and Applied Technology High School (Dubai).
The training session prepares the student for the work placement and provides them with basics of management of retail services.
Al Shamsi said students will get theoretical lectures and hands-on training on a wide range of areas of work including sales, customer service, stock replenishment, corporate working systems and code of professional ethics.
The YES to Work Initiative, an integrated part of ACTVET's programs, provides students with the chance to gain professional experience employment in a real work environment and acquire specific knowledge by attending a course in retail services.
YES to Work aims to: Build the capacity of skilled Emirati youth; Encourage young Emiratis to work in the private sector; Empower young Emiratis by providing them with specific knowledge, skills and best practice through job shadowing, training and apprenticeship programs; Include national talents in the private sector's market place; Inform nationals of the range of opportunities available outside the public sector and the government; Develop further opportunities of employment for Emiratis.
