The National Council for Childhood and Motherhood received positive feedback on Sunday from the #IamAgainstBullying campaign from various age groups.
"I am so pleased with the positive reactions after two weeks of launching the campaign against bullying among children, under the auspices of the council and in cooperation with UNICEF," said Secretary-General of the Council Azza el-Ashmawi.
According to el-Ashmawi, the campaign is supported by the European Union in cooperation with the Ministry of Education.
She referred to receiving messages from several school students expressing their admiration of the campaign, saying one female student said she witnessed many problems related to bullying in her preparatory school.
"As soon as I saw the campaign, I talked and shared some of the incidents I've seen at school, because bullying harms students psychologically and I hate bullies," she quoted the student as saying.
She also said out that bullying is a kind of aggressive behavior against others that annoys them and harms them. It is not a new phenomenon to society, but awareness for it is increasing now, she said.
The child emergency hotline 16000 has received 12,923 calls since the start of the campaign around two weeks ago, she said, adding that Cairo receives the highest number of calls, followed by Alexandria and Giza.
Calls by males reached 70% of the total calls, as males are more prone to violence, she said.
Ages between 10 and 12 are the highest as they represent almost half of the number of calls, she added.
