Contest held at Tishreen University of Lattakia Damascus - Arab Today With all Syrian expertise in terms of organisation, jurying and training, the 2013 Syrian Collegiate Programming Contest (SCPC)was recently held successfully at Tishreen University of Lattakia with the University of Damascus winning the top prize. Having solved 8 problems out of 10, "Nitro++" team of Damascus University won the first place and was awarded the "Solid Programmer" title for giving 4 executive correct solutions, in addition to winning the jury's award for solving a problem that was considered the most difficult one. SMASHERS team from Tishreen University won the second place after solving 6 problems. They also won the "Solid Programmer" prize for sending the first correct solution in the 7th minute after the start of the contest. However, the 3rd place went to al-Baath AT from al-Baath University of Homs as the team solved 5 problems. The winner Nitro++ told SANA youth bulletin that the team's three members; Nour al-Assadi, Firas Qassar and Khaled Qatini, exerted big efforts to win the first place and realize their dream, which would further give them a boost to work harder to win the regional contest scheduled in Egypt soon. Each team in the contest is to answer 10 questions using the Java and C++ programming languages and the various algorithms. Every team work as one coder on a computer to solve the questions and enter the programming code by one of the programming languages and send them to a central server. Each question is observed by a jury member who determines the result of the solution after applying a number of tests. The participants in this year's competition, which was organized by the Higher Education Ministry, the Syrian Computer Society and the Syriatel communications Company, marked a development in terms of the diversity of questions and the inclusion of new specializations like the Mechatronics. The 1st place winner team received SYP 80,000 for each member, offered by Syriatel, in addition to a one-year 4G internet subscription and a 3-month training program at the company. The second top team however received SYP 60,000 for each member, while members of the 3rd place winner got SYP 40,000 each. Both teams were also offered 4G internet subscription and training programs. The number of teams who participated in the contest amounted to 18 from the universities of Tishreen, Damascus and l-Baath, the Higher Institute for Sciences and Technology, al-Wadi Privet University and Al-Yarmouk University, in addition to 3 other teams who participated as guests.
