The government on Thursday announced the opening of (El- Obied-Higlig-Rabakuna-Bentio) humanitarian corridor for transmitting relief to famine victims in Greater Bahr Gazal state of South Sudan, within the humanitarian corridors seeking to preposition over 27000 tons of humanitarian assistance to the region, an average of 2000 tones weekly as provided by the American Aid programme, the trips takes an average of 5 to 6 days.
The government of North Korduafan state on Thursday organized a ceremony for the launching of the corridors in which participated members of the joint committee for the transportation of relief to the South Sudan and which include the World Food Programme as well as North Kordufan state, representative of the government of south Sudan and the Executive Imitative in the state.
Al Marthi Sidiq Al Mardi, the Minister for Social Affairs, said the government of the Sudan is committee to transportation of humanitarian assistance to the needy and to secure the required protection for the convoys and make sure they reach their destined ion in Bentio. He underlined the historic responsivity towards the South Sudanese brothers.
The representative of the world food programme, Tito Dumus has commended the government of the Sudan for opening this new corridor and for granting exemption and providing the facilities to help assisted the needy in south Sudan. He said the first beach of relief to the south was about 1.150 tons of sorghum, as part of a 400000 metric tons donated by the world food programme for south Sudan
He said the world food programme was able to deliver 57000 metric tons of relief the south via Rabak, Juda and Renk.
The representative of the government of south Sudan, Deng Achang, said south Sudan and Sudan are sisters and that the current relief convoy stands as proof of this claim.
He expressed the appreciation of the government of south Sudan and the people of south Sudan for the efforts exerted by Khartoum to help forward relief and humanitarian assistance to the needy in south Sudan
The head of the Higher Joint Committee for Transportation of Relief to the need in South Sudan, Mohamed Fadul Alla Siraj Eddin, said the humanitarian assistance and the convoy were a stand of support and response to the directives given by the President of the Republic Omar Bashir for opening a second humanitarian corridor along with all other air, land, and sea corridor for transportation of humanitarian assistance for the citizen of south Sudan in need of humanitarian assistance.
The Humanitarian Aid Commissioner in North Kordufan, Ahmed Babikir Al Hassan, reaffirmed the government commitment to transport relief and humanitarna assistance to south Sudan before the advent of the rainy season which could impede the transportation movement, calling on the government of South Sudan to ease all hurdle that might frustrate the transportation.
