Dubai - Arabstoday

Three persons died in separate road accidents during the past 24 hours in different areas of Dubai. With these deaths, the total number of fatalities caused by accidents on Dubai roads reached 30 since the beginning of 2012. According to the Dubai Traffic Chief Prosecutor, Salah Bu Faroucha Al Felasi, the first accident on Wednesday took place at 11.45am on Rebat Road when a Pakistani national, 23, lost control over his vehicle. The car veered off course from the first lane on the right to the third lane on the left, crashing past the road median to land in the way of traffic from the opposite direction. It finally rammed into another car heading from that direction, causing the Pakistani driver to die on the spot as a result of serious injuries sustained in the accident. The driver of the other car, who sustained minor injuries, was taken to Rashid Hospital for treatment, Al Felasi added. In the second accident, which took place on Ettihad Road involving traffic from Sharjah to Dubai, a Pakistani driver, 30, knocked down an anonymous pedestrian, who died on the spot. The third accident took place in Barsha area, when a Bangladeshi motorcyclist, 25, jumped the red signal and collided with a car, causing his bike to be pushed backwards and crash into a stationary car at the red signal. The biker, who was seriously injured, died at the scene of the accident, Al Felasi added. He explained that the prosecutor Ali Hammadi had begun co-ordinating with the concerned police departments regarding the initial procedures into these three cases. The driver who had caused the run-over accident was detained prior to being referred to the prosecution for legal action. Also, a committee was entrusted to prepare detailed technical reports on the accidents to be then referred to the traffic prosecutors. Additionally, Al Felasi noted that the traffic prosecution had registered 15 deaths caused by road accidents during March 2012, to bring the total death tally during the first quarter of 2012 to 27, as compared to 36 during the corresponding period last year. He urged motorists to be cautious and take necessary precautionary measures, besides adhering to traffic instructions in order to preserve public safety.
