At least five officials including a prosecutor and a crime branch chief have been killed in two attacks by militants in different parts of Afghanistan, said officials on Thursday.
According to police, militants in the Khan Cheragh district of northwestern Faryab province of Afghanistan have killed a prosecutor and a crime branch chief. Prosecutor Izzatullah and Crime Branch Chief Mohammad Navi Bezhan were kidnapped along with a bodyguard on Wednesday. The district chief of Khan Cheragh, Mohammad Akbar Irkin confirmed that initial reports indicated the two officials had been killed.
Moreover, three Afghan Local Police (ALP) personnel died in a roadside bombing in eastern Laghman province of the country. Sarhadi Zwak, the governor's spokesman said that the roadside blast took place on Thursday when an ALP pickup hit the bomb in Waschi Palosi area. Three ALP members, including their commander, were killed and four others wounded, he said, adding an investigation into the incident was underway.
The attack came at a time when the overall security situation of Afghanistan is to be handed over to the Afghan National Army (ANA) as NATO/ISAF forces prepare to leave Afghanistan this year.
