Nouakchott - Arabstoday

Nouakchott reported Saturday evening that Mohamed Abdallah Ould Bayezid set himself alight in front of the presidential palace. Ould Bayezid died in the National Hospital, while preparations were made to move him to Morocco for treatment after physicians described his state as "severe", saying he had third degree burns. Working as a teacher, Ould Bayezid's salary was suspended a few months ago after the authorities rejected to move him from a place which he considered "remote". He set himself on fire in a protest against his bad economic conditions. Presidential Guards managed to move him to the National Hospital directly following the accident. It is worth mentioning that Mohamed Abdallah is the second young man to set himself on fire in front of the Presidential Palace in Mauritania.
