Famous Lebanese singer Majida El Roumi arrived in Sharjah yesterday, in preparation to perform at her charity concert, set to take place tomorrow evening (Friday), January 23rd, at Al Majaz Amphitheatre, in affiliation with the Sharjah Media Centre (SMC)
The proceeds of the concert will go to The “Big Heart Foundation”, a humanitarian initiative launched by Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher Bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Wife of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah and UNHCR Eminent Advocate for Refugee Children, to provide protection to refugee children worldwide and ensure a better future for them.
Sheikh Sultan Bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Sharjah Media Corporation and Sharjah Media Centre (SMC), accompanied by SMC’s Director Osama Samara, greeted Majida El Roumi upon her arrival in Sharjah.
Sheikh Sultan Bin Ahmed welcomed the idea of organising charity concerts to attend to the humanitarian needs of underprivileged people and lend a hand to refugee children in neighborly and conciliatory countries. He stressed that Majida El Roumi’s charity concert will be the most important of its kind in Sharjah, due to the expected large attendance and the sizable audience’s bighearted interaction with the concert.
For her part, Majida El Roumi expressed her delight for visiting the Emirate of Sharjah, home to cultural monuments and high-profile cultural events, which makes it an important Arab and regional destination for cultural tourism.
The renowned Lebanese diva said that she was excited to meet the audience at Al Majaz Amphitheatre - an iconic architectural milestone - and added that she was happy to allocate proceeds from her concert for the Big Heart Foundation, which helps bring happiness and joy to children and alleviate their suffering.
Tickets for the concert, which will start at 9:30pm, are exclusively available at www.ticketmaster.ae, in six price categories, including AED 1500, AED 1000, AED 800, AED 700, AED 500 and AED 250. All proceeds from the tickets will be donated to the Big Heart Campaign, and donations will also be received from the audience through donation boxes located at different points in the Amphitheatre during the performance.
The Big Heart Foundation was launched in June 2013 under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Wife of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, UNHCR Eminent Advocate for Refugee Children, to support Syrian refugee children. The Foundation has succeeded in raising US$13 million over the past year and contributed in meeting the needs of hundreds of thousands of Syrian refugees through the provision of emergency healthcare, clothing, blankets, shelter, and food. The campaign was turned from emergency relief to education, as part of the efforts that aim to bring Syrian refugee children back to school to complete their education after they fled their war-torn country.
The Al Majaz Amphitheatre, the first of its kind in the region, was opened in March 2014 to become the official venue for the emirate’s celebration of the Sharjah Capital of Islamic Culture 2014, after it hosted the epic oratorio Clusters of Light, which kicked off the start of Sharjah's celebrations last year.
The Dh120 million- Amphitheatre is an open-air semi-circular theatre spanning 7,238 square meters and can accommodate up to 4,500 people.
It features a vast viewing platform through which artists can ascend, and is equipped with a high-quality and accuracy-advanced audio system. The Amphitheatre, which hosts international cultural and art events, houses conference rooms, art galleries, shops and green spaces.
