Ahmed Abu Hashima and Haifa Wehbe Beirut - Ghenwa Deryan After a love story encompassing six years of marriage, divorce has separated two stars, one Egyptian steel industry mogul, Ahmed Abu Hashima; and the other a Lebanese star singer Haifa Wehbe. The relationship that many believe lasted for 6 years was somewhat even longer. At the time Ahmed Abu Hashima and Haifa Wehbe became involved, he was married and raising two children. His mother was unhappy about the relationship and didn’t want it said that her son was in a relationship with no future with a singer. For this reason, his sister May told people that her brother was not in a casual relationship with Haifa, but that they were on the path to a formal commitment, insider sources revealed. And so Wahbe married Hashima. Wahbe announced her divorce in a brief statement to the media and her fans on her Facebook page. The statement read: "For the honourable press: Mrs Haifa Wehbe and Mr Ahmed Abu Hashima are sorry to inform you that they are divorcing after a love story that lasted for six years, and was culminated into a marriage of four years ago. We took this decision with full conviction, but we would like to stress that our friendship and mutual respect will last forever, as well as our appreciation to the good time we spent with each other. We both decided to announce this news in an official and direct way - the same way in which we announced our marriage four years ago - because we realise that we have a commitment towards the society and the honourable press, so we expect you to respect the personal nature of this decision.” Sources close to Haifa revealed to Arabstoday that the official procedures of the divorce took place in Lebanon ten days ago. Rumours returned to haunt Wehbe when allegations surfaced about her exchanging gifts with the Emir of Qatar. Shortly before the rumours circulated, her husband was photographed with the Emir of Qatar. Is it possible that Hashima has some sort of connection with the Emir, especially as the former constantly said that he has a strategic partner in his steel company without identifying who it was? If that partner is the Emir of Qatar, is it possible that they would exchange gifts? This rumour has most definitely irritated Hashima, who had done a great deal to keep Haifa happy. He cut ties with his friend and Egyptian singer Amr Diab at Haifa’s request because she believed the singer’s fans would flirt with her husband. In interviews, Wehbe refused to discuss Hashima’s former life with his first wife and his children. Sources close to Haifa said: “She didn’t want the separation to be a surprise, unlike what many believe. At the time that she said everything was great with Hashima, his family had started leaking information that things were not going great between the two.” Some believe the divorce was inevitable given Hashima’s plan to become involved in politics. If he does not stand for election in Parliament this coming cycle, it will be the next. Coming from a conservative family from Bani Sweif, his wife must conform to traditional morals, sources said. All these factors could force any observer to think that despite the romance in the relationship, it could only have ended in divorce.
