King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands on Tuesday began a two-day state visit to Denmark.
The state visit aims to strengthen the relations and the common interests between Denmark and the Netherlands, Denmark's foreign ministry said in a statement.
Following an official welcome by Denmark's Queen Margrethe II and Prince Consort Henrik at Copenhagen Airport, the Dutch royal couple kicked off their Denmark stay by holding a short meeting with their Danish counterparts at Fredensborg Palace, some 40 kilometers north of Copenhagen.
The Dutch King and Queen then went on to meet with Danish Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt at Christiansborg Palace, the seat of Danish parliament, in Copenhagen.
They are scheduled to visit the island of Samso on Wednesday, a place well-known for being run on 100 percent renewable energy.
