Wojdan Shaherkani
Saudi Arabia's Wojdan Shaherkani looks on after losing her women's +78kg judo contest first round match of the London 2012 Olympic Games at the ExCel arena in London.
Shaherkani became the first ever
female Saudi athlete to compete at the Olympic Games, but her historic debut lasted just 82 seconds in her bout with Monica Mojica of Puerto Rica.
The 16 year old home-trained Judo amateur was involved in two scandals, the first being Saudi Arabia being forced by the IOC to field a women's team and the second was her right to wear a hijab which was eventually allowed by the IOC.
Only one female athlete for Saudi Arabia remains, the US trained 800m runner Sarah Attar. Neither of the athletes fielded were of Olympic standard and both qualified automatically.
Saudi Arabia struggled to find athletes due to the banning of women participating, training or watching sport in Saudi Arabia.
