Tina Maze seeks to add to her medal haul and Lindsey Vonn gets her first taste of slalom in over two years in Monday's super-combined at the alpine World Championships.
The 31-year-old Slovenian star Maze has already claimed a gold in the downhill and a silver in super-G at the biennial championships which are being held in Beaver Creek.
She is hoping to break through Monday after finishing runner-up in the combined in the last two World Championships, 2011 and 2013.
Maze has earned three career World Cup race wins in the combined, 2011 in Tarvisio, 2012 in St. Moritz and 2013 in Meribel. She also finished second twice.
The event includes a downhill and one slalom run, with both portions taking place on the same day.
Austria's Nicole Hosp is another contender to watch for. Hosp, 31, is aiming for her first combined win in eight years. She has reached the podium seven times in combined, winning once in Tarvisio in 2007.
She is second to four-time overall World Cup champion Lindsey Vonn (12) in career podium finishes.
Vonn, who recently became the winningest woman in World Cup history, has had disappointing results so far in these Worlds, finishing fifth in downhill and third in super-G in front of her home crowd.
She is planning to reverse that with strong performances in her final two events, Monday's combined and Thursday's giant slalom.
"I will be giving a 110 percent effort and hopefully I will make America proud," she said earlier this week.
"I have not skied slalom in two-and-a-half years so this is going to be fun."
Nobody is counting out reigning women's overall champion Anna Fenninger, who won the combined at the 2011 World Championships in Garmisch-Partenkirchen ahead of Maze and former Swedish star Anja Paerson.
It marks Fenninger's only world title and her only podium finish at a World Championships, Olympic Games and World Cup race in this event.
