In a bid to curb run-over accidents and educate road users, the Department of Eastern Region of the Sharjah Police, in cooperation with the Municipal Council of Khorfakkan has started a campaign encouraging the use of pedestrian subways and bridges instead of crossing the roads from non-designated areas. The campaign was launched following the inauguration of Al Loloeya subway by Colonel Abdullah Mubarak bin Amir, Director of the Eastern Region Police. Col Bin Aamir said the drive comes as part of a series of programmes being planned to reduce run-over accidents and educate all segments of the society including school students and those with special needs about the importance of using subways and bridges for their safety. “The tunnels are designed in a way that enables all people, including those with special needs, could use them. They are built to end the habit of endangering their lives by crossing roads from non-designated areas,” he added.
