Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry on Tuesday had talks with his Burundian counterpart Alain Aime Nyamitwe on bilateral relations, the crisis in Burundi and the situation in Africa.

Shoukry and Nyamitwe took up the cooperation programs between Egypt and Burundi and a program on technical and institutional support provided by the Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development (EAPD), Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid said.

In this regard, the Burundian side lauded Egypt's role in supporting economic and social development programs in Burundi.

The meeting also tackled the latest developments of the crisis in Burundi and regional and international efforts to solve it. 

They also discussed the coordination of stances between the two countries within the framework of the African Union as well as the relations between the Nile basin countries. 

Shoukry briefed his Burundian counterpart on the relations with Ethiopia and cooperation between Cairo, Addis Ababa and Khartoum on the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam.
