The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) condemned the destruction of ancient artifacts at a Mosul museum by Daesh militants.
In a statement, OIC Secretary General Iyad Madani said he backs a call by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to hold an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council to take deterrent measures against the destruction of human history.
Daesh militants ransacked Mosul’s central museum, destroying priceless artifacts that are thousands of years old. Statues and artifacts that date from the Assyrian and Akkadian empires were destroyed in the rampage as revealed in a video published by the group on Thursday.
