Kuwait's Permanent Representative to the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Ambassador Dr. Ali Al-Tarrah affirmed Monday his country's keenness on boosting GCC cooperation at UNESCO.
Kuwait is keen on bolstering Gulf cooperation in light of difficult situations surrounding the region, which require consolidation of all GCC countries' efforts in order to face current changes in the Arab World, the Kuwaiti diplomat said in a press briefing on the occasion of Kuwait's appointment as head of GCC group at UNESCO, succeeding Qatar.
The world is currently under critical circumstances, embodied in wars waged by radical groups, Al-Tarrah said, noting that these wars are basically "cultural" imposed by terrorist groups, who violated the true teachings of Islam, and that people must realize that cultural wars are more violent than traditional wars.
The UNESCO has a historic responsibility in countering whoever tends to spread sedition among peoples' cultures, he said, affirming that the GCC continuously seeks stability in the world and discards cultural hatred that threatens the world.
