Japan is to call on the United States, Britain, France and South Korea to step up cooperation in securing safe transport of nuclear fuel, according to Japan's (NHK World) website.

Japan's Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda will speak at the two-day nuclear security summit, which opens Monday in Seoul, South Korea. Japan will propose launching a working group among the five nations, to jointly study and develop technology associated with the movement of nuclear fuel. The group's first meeting will hopefully be held by the end of next year. Japan will also propose that the five countries conduct joint drills for emergencies while transporting nuclear materials. It will also call for compiling a proposal on safe transportation, to be presented at the next nuclear security summit. The upcoming summit in Seoul will be attended by the leaders of 53 countries, who will discuss measures to prevent terror attacks using nuclear materials or against atomic power plants. according to NHK World, Japan intends to stress its resolve to learn from the Fukushima Daiichi power station accident and secure safe management of nuclear materials.
