Cairo - MENA

Security forces sealed off on Monday the vicinity of the Syndicate of Journalists in downtown Cairo.

No cars or pedestrians were allowed to get into the closed area.

MENA correspondent said iron barricades were installed from Abdel Khaleq Tharwat Street – where the syndicate is located – until its intersection with Ramsis and Shamblion Streets.

Several Central Security Forces vehicles were deployed in the sealed-off area.

Interior Minister Magdy Abdel Ghaffar held a meeting with his aides and security leaderships to review security measures in the face of any possible violation of the law.

Abdel Ghaffar underlined that Egypt's security and stability is a redline. Anyone seeking to mar Egypt's security would not be condoned.

He stressed that strict measures will be taken against anyone attempting to harm public security or attack vital or police facilities.

He said the state has taken serious steps to realize stability and development in various domains, adding that there are constitutional channels for monitoring the government performance.

He underlined that unconstitutional and illegal practices will not be allowed.

He expressed confidence that honest people will not heed to calls for spreading chaos and state of lawlessness.

He cautioned that there are bids to pit security agencies against the people whom policemen pledged to protect.
