Popular Mechanics today named General Motors’ Super Cruise semi-autonomous driving technology for Cadillac a winner of its ninth annual Breakthrough Awards that recognize innovators and products that advance the fields of technology, medicine, space exploration, automotive design, and more. Super Cruise is capable of semi-automated driving including hands-off lane following, braking and speed control under certain driving conditions. The system is designed to ease the driver’s workload on freeways only, in bumper-to-bumper traffic and on long road trips; however, the driver’s attention is still required. Super Cruise is undergoing real-world driving assessment and trials, and could make its way into Cadillac production models later this decade. Honorees will be recognized in the November issue of Popular Mechanics available on newsstands on October 15. Source: GM
