The Alfa Romeo TZ3 Stradale is a confusing blend of heritage, badges and rebranding. The car is badged as an Alfa Romeo, yet is is based on the Dodge Viper ACR's chassis, uses the Viper's engine, and the styling was conducted by the Milan-based styling firm Zagato.Unlike the better-looking TZ3 Corsa- which actually was based on an Alfa Romeo - the TZ3 Stradale is a road car, and more than one example will be manufactured. However it'll still be limited to just nine cars worldwide, and the first three were sold before it was publicly unveiled. The 'Alfa Romeo' TZ3 Stradale is powered by the Viper ACR's 8.3 litre V10 engine which produces 600 horsepower and 560 lb-ft of torque. This is mated to a six-speed manual transmission driving the rear wheels. The carbon fiber bodywork of the TZ3 Stradale clearly features the Viper's low-slung, cab-rearward stance. However Zagato's designers have done a good job of giving the car a new and distinct personality. The first 'Alfa Romeo' TZ3 Stradale was sold to the US Alfa Romeo and Zagato collector Eric King. The second and third TZ3 Stradale's will be delivered to unnamed buyers in Japan and Europe respectively.Sadly, the fact the TZ3 Stradale has been branded an Alfa Romeo - when it clearly has no engineering or historical connection - is quite dumb. It's a bit like someone gluing a Lotus badge on a Ford Mustang.Still, perhaps when you're a filthy rich car collector you can make up your own style of 'heritage'.
