Syrian opposition factions control Aleppo outskirts

Syrian opposition factions announced that they took over areas at the outskirts of Aleppo from the Syrian regime forces as part of a battle to break the siege imposed on the city of Aleppo.

The opposition forces succeeded to break the first defense lines of Al Amiriyah village, to control Al Gameyat area on the southern axis of Aleppo. The opposition said scores of regime soldiers were killed during the operation, said Al-Arabiya satellite channel.

The channel added that the new phase of the battle aimed at controlling two-thirds of the Al Mahroukat and Al Gameyat areas, in an effort to break the siege imposed on the eastern neighborhoods.

The United Nations announced yesterday that intense diplomatic efforts were underway to reach an agreement on a humanitarian truce in the city of Aleppo, hoping to reach a comprehensive humanitarian plan in the next few days.
