French Foreign Minister Jean Marc Ayrault warned on Thursday of a potential split in Syria into two regions held by the regime and Daesh.
In an interview with Radio France Internationale, Ayrault said the fall of Aleppo in weeks does not mean that the issue of peace will be settled, noting to the progress made by Syrian government forces with the help of Russian and Iranian allies to restore the second largest Syrian city.
Chaos threatens regional balance and does not allow the elimination of Daesh, he added.
He urged for settling the conflict through political solutions as the military ones will lead the region to a permanent chaos.
Russia and China vetoed on Monday a UN Security Council resolution on immediate seven-day ceasefire in Aleppo, which was submitted by Egypt, New Zealand and Spain.
