Cairo - Arab Today
Tunisia's Ambassador to the Arab League Najib Al Munif called on Tuesday for boosting the role played by the Arab League to solve the Syrian crisis and reach a political solution to the conflict in the war-torn country.
Syria is witnessing a dangerous escalation in fighting operations and the fall of a huge number of casualties, Munif said at an extraordinary meeting of the Arab League's Council at the level of permanent delegates in Cairo.
He stressed the necessity of pushing toward resuming dialogue to reach a ceasefire and end the suffering of the Syrian people.
Kuwait’s delegate to the pan-Arab body Ahmed Al Bakr said that the Syrian city of Aleppo has been witnessing a humanitarian catastrophe that the world has not seen since the World War II.
"Aleppo is witnessing the most brutal practices, which include the use of banned weapons against the unarmed civilians," he said.
Algeria’s envoy to the Arab League, Nazir Al Arabawi said that what is happening in Aleppo cannot be isolated from the killing and destruction in other cities in Syria.
He asserted his country’s stance against the military solution, insisting that any foreign interference will not solve the crisis.
