A prominent candidate belonging to the party of the Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister Saleh Al-Mutlaq was assasinated in Diyala province, northeast of Baghdad, Iraqi police said on Sunday. An explosive device targeting the procession of Najim Al-Harbi in Muqdadiyah city north of Diyala, killed the candidate and one of his brothers. A third person was also injured as a result of the explosion, a source in the Iraqi police told KUNA.
