A member of the Iraqi security forces walks past the site of a bomb attack

Iraqi security forces managed on Sunday to repel an attack by a suicide bomber wearing an explosive belt in central Iraq.

Yet, many were killed and injured.

The attack took place near a Shiite convoy close to Jadiriyah Bridge in Baghdad city, eyewitnesses said.

On Saturday, at least 34 were killed and dozens injured in the Shiite-populated Sha'ab neighborhood where a suicide bomber detonated himself.

The Iraqi capital, a home to seven million resident, has been witnessing terrorist attacks with explosive charges and booby-trapped cars every now and then carried out by Daesh terrorist group to destabilize the city.

According to UNAMI, Baghdad has the highest number of violence and terrorism victims among Iraqi governorates.
