A wide-scale military operation was launched to chase elements of Daesh terrorist group in Hawi al Azim district in northern Diyala, said Abdul Khaliq al Azzawi, a member of Diyala provincial council.
The operation aims to prevent Daesh terrorists from infiltrating, he told Alsumaria news channel on Saturday.
Azzawi noted that the tribal fighters, in coordination with Iraqi army forces, have launched an offensive in three villages in Hawi al Azim district, 85 kilometers north of Baqubah, to chase Daesh elements.
An explosive device was found, he said, adding that it was detonated with no casualties.
