Jennette McCurdy says her feud with Ariana Grande was misconstrued.
The 22-year-old actress addressed her alleged conflict with the 21-year-old singer in an interview with E! News. McCurdy and Grande starred as Sam and Cat, respectively, on Nickelodeon series Sam & Cat, and had rumored bad blood after the show was canceled in 2014.
"Ariana and I were and are extremely close and very like-minded in a lot of different ways and then, sorta as the show dissolved, everybody wanted to find some kind of hidden meaning in our relationship," McCurdy explained.
"Some like drama and I think we butted heads at times but in a very sisterly way," she allowed. "There is certainly like a friend dynamic but then once ... you are around these people constantly and it's just natural that you're gonna have ups and downs."
Sam & Cat ran for just one season and ended amid reports of poor treatment from the network. McCurdy said her experience on the series caused her to grow "so close" to Grande and co-star Miranda Cosgrove, and declared she has "impenetrable" bonds with the actresses.
McCurdy announced earlier this week she will star on new Netflix series Between. The drama is created by Michael McGowan and follows a town where everyone over the age of 21 is killed by a mysterious disease. Between premieres May 21.
