Jennette McCurdy has addressed Sam and Cat's cancellation.
The 22-year-old actress hosted a Reddit forum Thursday to discuss the television series and other concerns. McCurdy and Ariana Grande co-starred on the Nickelodeon show for one season, but the network officially canceled the program earlier this month. The comedy had been put on a "permanent hiatus" in April amid rumors of an on-set feud between the actresses, and allegations of poor treatment by the network.
"I left Nickelodeon recently because I needed to move forward with my life," McCurdy writes in response to a user's question on Reddit.
McCurdy also penned a lengthy post to dismiss her status as a role model. Racy photos of the actress caused controversy this year, but she says she never intended to be a role model.
"I am not a role model," she asserted. "I don't claim to be, I don't try to be, and I don't want to be ... With the growing up I've done, I realize that the attempt to live up to the idea of being a role model is to set myself up for foregone failure."
"I am proud of the way I live my life," she continued. "I am proud of my choices. I am proud that no one can call me fake or say I don't stand up for myself. I am proud that my friends and family would say that I'm a good person."
McCurdy explained in a different thread the post is not an apology. "I'm not apologizing," she clarified. "Don't need to."
