Chris Brown

Grammy award-winning artist Chris Brown was barred from leaving the Philippines Wednesday.

Brown had just finished a concert in Manila Tuesday evening, and was about to board his private jet for Hong Kong, when he was stopped by authorities.

According to Time magazine, the Philippines Department of Justice issued the order Tuesday when promoters complained the "Loyal" singer owed them money after he failed to show up for a scheduled concert last New Year's Eve at the Philippines Arena located north of Manila.

Both Brown and his promoter, John Michael Pio Roda, were forced to stay in the country. But CNN reported the singer could obtain a "clearance certificate that could allow them to leave if the Department of Justice consented."

With scheduled performances in China, Cyprus and Indonesia, Brown took to Twitter to tell fans that his Jakarta concert date will be moved due to "safety concerns."
